Special Education Schools
We represent students with disabilities, and the schools that serve them. Our reputation for providing legal advice on all matters concerning the provision of special education services has earned us many loyal clients, ranking among the elite in the Special Education field.

Our clients have included: Ascent, Eden II, Genesis School, Hebrew Academy of Special Children, Hebrew Academy of Five Towns and Rockaway, Hebrew Academy Long Beach, The Milestone School, and The School for Language and Communication Development.

Students with Disabilities
In addition to the many schools we serve, we represent individual children with disabilities and their families, particularly in disputes with school districts, the New York State Department of Education, and other administrative agencies that are involved in the regulation of Special Education services.

How We Can Help - Special Education Schools
All of these schools choose to deal with us over other law firms because of our experience dealing with a wide range of special education issues. This experience includes handling a variety of administrative complaints, due process complaints, and litigation. Moreover, we are well versed in the intricacies of federal and state special education law and practice.

We help schools in developing new programs, expanding existing programs, obtaining approval from state and federal authorities, program audits, personnel and employment issues, contracting, administrative policy development, and transportation, by way of example

Aside from serving as legal counsel to these schools, we also keep our clients and their constituents up to date on trends, issues, and legislation that impact the special education community.

How We Can Help - Students with Disabilities
Children with special learning needs are entitled to special protective measures, which are designed to ensure that they receive the same level of educational service as children without special needs. We advocate for our clients to obtain the education services and other supports to which their children are entitled.

Federal laws such as the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 provide additional protections to special needs children. With our in-depth knowledge of these various laws, and their detailed enforcement regulations, we understand the practices and procedures necessary to obtain proper evaluation, placement, and service for our clients, including the development and implementation of appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Some examples of how we have been able to help our clients include:
  • Providing counsel to families that believe their school district is out of compliance with the Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and/or Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

  • Helping parent's gain access to records.

  • Securing all available services through an appropriate Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Areas of Special Education where we have significant experience includes:
  • All policies and practices of the State Education Department's Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID)
  • Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Section 504/IDEA
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Federal Education and Rights Privacy Act (FERPA)
